Q&A: Is my body holding trauma?

I’m wondering if you can help me understand something – I feel like my mind is ready to move past my trauma, but my body seems to be holding onto it. It’s this intense, stuck feeling, like my body is overwhelmed even though mentally I want to let go. Do you know what might be causing this disconnect, and what I could do to help release this physical tension?

It sounds like there is a blockage in your emotional body and it’s getting to the point where you feel it in your physical body. This often happens from traumatic experiences.

If you are already in therapy it could be that this is enough to help you release it eventually. But if not, you can try other modalities or learn how to release it yourself. If you know you have been through serious trauma I recommend doing it with someone else first.

One thing I will say is that even though it feels like your body can’t handle this (I know this experience well), it definitely can. A lot of the pain is coming from your body and mind trying to fight the feeling instead of allowing it to flow through you.

When the feeling gets too intense, take some deep breaths and try saying to yourself, “My body can handle this pain”.

Wishing you love, light and healing.
